Third Misfortune - [voice] - Backdated to Halloween night

[It’s Halloween night. Czes has never really been one to worry over celebrating Halloween, candy, dressing up in costumes, the works, but these past few days have been hectic and he needs some entertainment.  Ghost stories is the best option he has though the story he has in mind is one he'd rather not discuss.  But if he can get a few people scared from it, maybe it'll be worth it.

Not sure how people can't not be scared by it at least...

His voice is low, almost like he’s scared to speak too loudly in case the creature pops up behind him. Which he kinda is. It somehow wouldn’t be that big of a surprise to him if the Malnosso were that cruel to him]

Back in my world, there’s this legend. It’s of a red monster called the Rail Tracer. [The meaning of the word ‘monster’ is used to the fullest extent here.] It rides the rail tracks and follows trains in the shadows and they say that when anyone on board believes he’s real, he climbs on board and overtakes the train, murdering everyone on it.

[A beat] But I don’t think that last part is right. I think he just waits until the opportune moment… then [SMACK. His hands hit the table that the journal is resting on. He’s trying to focus on scaring others rather than himself] goes in for his kill.

The scariest part about this legend, is that it’s real. [No really, it’s real.] I didn’t think it was at first but then I saw the blood-covered monster with my own eyes once! [Saw him, was killed by him and was tortured by him. All in one night.]

I even saw him murdering the passengers. He would silently snatch them up from their cars and hold them over the tracks until they would get so close to the moving ground that their faces and limbs would be ripped right off! [His arm starts to tingle from the memory and he bites his lip for a moment.  The memory is all too vivid, even after all this time.  It haunts him still.

See, Czes is really telling his own story here. He was the one who got his hand and arm literally ripped off by that monster’s torture tactics. He isn’t entirely sure if anyone else got this treatment but it wouldn’t surprise him if anyone did.

He shudders]
It was really scary…

[Listening to this story from the safety of under-a-blanket-in-his-room, Luke jumped at the smack and shivered when he started going into detail about how real it was.

Because. It was real. Hearing it in words gives new life to his wispy memories.

So he makes sure to make enough noise coming up behind Czes that the boy will notice it. Then he reaches out to awkwardly pat his shoulder.]

[This is not a tale Maiza has heard from Czeslaw before. He wonders when that happened. Actually, he wonders when that was even a legend. He's never heard it before. But then again, it could be recent and Maiza hasn't left New York much at all since joining the Martillos. Czes could have picked it up from somewhere.

But he pokes his head into the room Czes is in while the kid is telling the story, seeing him look troubled. Maiza reminds himself that this is still a kid no matter how many centuries he's been alive. Everyone had fears. Even Elmer has concerns sometimes even if they're different from everyone else's.]

Czes, you all right?

[ah, hearing that was creepy. She's faced monsters before sure, but that sounded extremely terrible.]

Are you okay.., you sounded uncomfortable talking out this.

[ The story started out okay. A monster story, but okay, those always ended with the monster being defeated somehow, right? But by the time the SMACK came Ikki was still and quiet enough that she jumped, and then he kept talking and she didn't think to stop listening, and suddenly faces and limbs were being ripped off what even. ]

Nononononononono! [ She's not even really intending to respond, it's just. Stop talking stop talking stop talking never talk about this ever again! ]

A monster that rides trains? I've fought a monster train before, but not a monster on a train. Would it have been possible for you to set it on fire?

[Completely unable to see monsters in anything but practical terms here. ...Even if they're the only train in his world.]

[Czes may get on Firo's nerves sometimes, but that doesn't make him any less concerned when he hears Czes say he saw all that. The whole thing sounds disturbing even though he's hardly squeamish. As he sits there, speechless after the story's conclusion, he wonders if Czes is making it up as a Halloween prank. He sounds too afraid for that, and even if it is just really good acting Firo'd feel bad if he didn't check.]

...Czes? You okay? When did this all happen?

[Emmet was patiently listening, grinning all to much at the story. The fear in the storyteller's voice, the descriptions provided, and even the way the setting hit pretty close to home for Emmet... it was thrilling. He'd have to remember this one to share with his coworkers in the Subway.]

Amazing... amazing! My hair is standing on end! Chills down my spine!

What a great story!
