[After a short trip to the grocery store, Czes comes back to the fifth floor of building seven and sets out the box of spaghetti and can of tomato sauce out on the counter. Despite how Firo made him paranoid about eating the food here, the kid has to eat something.

So as he puts a pot of water on the stove for himself then sits down at a near by table. He stares out the kitchen window for a few minutes, watching the storm outside when boredom strikes him and he pulls out his journal]

You know, it's strange. To think that a lot of us are from 'Earth' and yet they're not the same 'Earth' that each of us are familiar with. For example, someone could be from... I don't know, let's say Tokyo since a bunch of you appear to be from Japan, but it won't be the same Tokyo you know. In some way, it'll be different.

Things never happened the way one person knows it did in their version of Tokyo.

What would that be called again... parallel universes, right?

[He places some of the spaghetti into the pot of boiling water and turns down the stove a little]

So do you think that there might be like... another version of us on our different versions of 'Earth'? It's kind of exciting to think about actually. They'd have different memories, friends and maybe family...

I wonder what would happen if we ran into our other selves on this trip the Malnosso were talking about.

Would the universe just go BOOM? [He throws his hands into the air then chuckles a bit to himself]

Well, it was just a thought. [ ... ] What would you do if you could meet another version of yourself? Would you envy them for having a different life--for being set on a different path?

Whoa really? So does that mean you can travel to different worlds?

Ah well, I was just thinking about that trip the Malnosso had talked about a while ago.

[And we are not answering those questions.]

It is something that appears to be on the minds of many. I find it odd we have received no further communication from the Malnosso on this subject.

Yeah, it does seem pretty weird that they're not saying anything else. Do you think they're hiding information?

[Too bad, so sad.]

I'm certain they are. The Malnosso have never been entirely honest about any situation in which they have placed us.

Never ever?

[He's just acting cute now. He knows they wouldn't be honest]

[That gets an eyebrow.]

What reason do they have to be honest?

To gain our trust. With that, they could accomplish much more than what they are now.

[And this is something that Czes would know best. Gain a persons trust, turn on them later]

[Grune looks at him narrowly, but says only:] Unless our knowing the full truth will result in the opposite effect.

Do you think that it would? [He's never had trouble with that before]

If it is the sort of truth we would be unwilling to accept, yes.

I guess you have a point then... [Stubborn people making things difficult]

Regardless, one way or another, we will find out their intentions. We can only hope it will be relatively simple to deal with matters as they come.

Nothing is ever as simple as we would like it to be. Especially not here.

You are certainly correct. Perhaps it is a vain hope, after all.

There's no doubt that it is. [Not that Czes ever had any hope]

In that case, I suppose all that remains is to be as prepared as possible.

That's the best option, in my opinion. You can never be too careful out here in this place.

[Dryly:] Even if knowing for what, precisely, we are to be prepared is difficult.

True. The Malnosso sure like to surprise us with any number of things. I guess the best way to prepare is just to brace yourself for the wildest thing possible.

Given past experiments, I find myself at a loss to imagine what that might be. The Malnosso are nothing if not infinitely creative.

Tell me Miss, what's the craziest experiment you have been through here? I'm curious!

It is difficult to say--there have certainly been a number of odd experiments. The experiment with the horoscopes, for one, had very strange effects with seemingly no purpose.

Horoscopes experiment? Would you mind telling me more about this one?

A number of the residents here were given highly odd predictions that nevertheless came true. I did not receive any myself, but a number of my friends did.
