[It’s Halloween night. Czes has never really been one to worry over celebrating Halloween, candy, dressing up in costumes, the works, but these past few days have been hectic and he needs some entertainment. Ghost stories is the best option he has though the story he has in mind is one he'd rather not discuss. But if he can get a few people scared from it, maybe it'll be worth it.

Not sure how people can't not be scared by it at least...

His voice is low, almost like he’s scared to speak too loudly in case the creature pops up behind him. Which he kinda is. It somehow wouldn’t be that big of a surprise to him if the Malnosso were that cruel to him]

Back in my world, there’s this legend. It’s of a red monster called the Rail Tracer. [The meaning of the word ‘monster’ is used to the fullest extent here.] It rides the rail tracks and follows trains in the shadows and they say that when anyone on board believes he’s real, he climbs on board and overtakes the train, murdering everyone on it.

[A beat] But I don’t think that last part is right. I think he just waits until the opportune moment… then [SMACK. His hands hit the table that the journal is resting on. He’s trying to focus on scaring others rather than himself] goes in for his kill.

The scariest part about this legend, is that it’s real. [No really, it’s real.] I didn’t think it was at first but then I saw the blood-covered monster with my own eyes once! [Saw him, was killed by him and was tortured by him. All in one night.]

I even saw him murdering the passengers. He would silently snatch them up from their cars and hold them over the tracks until they would get so close to the moving ground that their faces and limbs would be ripped right off! [His arm starts to tingle from the memory and he bites his lip for a moment. The memory is all too vivid, even after all this time. It haunts him still.

See, Czes is really telling his own story here. He was the one who got his hand and arm literally ripped off by that monster’s torture tactics. He isn’t entirely sure if anyone else got this treatment but it wouldn’t surprise him if anyone did.

He shudders] It was really scary…

[He watches Maiza walk over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. He knows Maiza knows that he's not okay, that he's lying. Not that he was necessarily hiding his fear just a minute ago so that isn't really that surprising. Just being read into more than usual bothers him a bit. But this is Maiza, someone he wants to trust.

So he'll play along.]

I'm sorry. It was all in good Halloween spirit, I promise. [He'll be fine.]

[His expression softens a bit and he blinks]

Sure. What do you want to do?

[He nods and lets go of the shoulder, hands in his pockets now as he looks down at Czes.]

Is that really a story from home? I don't think I've heard of it before.

[ s-sob. Manners are important, her grandparents say so. ]

Don't you know any happy stories?

The monster if at all possible, but setting part of the train on fire after evacuating it could also work if it blocks the monster's path.

Well I wouldn't have that "really scary" part at the end, for one. Also, the fact you're alive limits its credibility if you're saying you saw some homicidal monster. Unless, of course, you're dead. In which case, it's more depressing that scary, wouldn't you say?

Come on, you really expect me to believe that?

[He's stupid, but not that stupid.]

Why didn't you mention this before?

[What reason did Czes have to hide this? Doesn't he know he can trust Firo?

...Well, judging from their past encounters, probably not. Firo has to wonder if there's something he's doing wrong.]

Do you know any other scary stories with trains?

Are... these kind of stories a normal thing for your world. To happen?

Oh. Um. [What could they do? Sitting and doing puzzles doesn't sound like something that would make Czes happy.]

We can...we can cook something!

[He actually pauses for a good minute to think about this. Considering he's been alive for 200+ years he's heard a lot of stories okay]

None that are true or any scarier than the one I just told, I'm afraid.

[He ignores the first question. Firo is one of those he doesn't want digging into his mental and true emotional state if he can help it.]

You mean you didn't hear about the incident in the newspapers?

Golly, I don't think it would've been possible to set him on fire! No one ever saw him coming, he was really fast.

[None that he'd be willing to tell]

I do, but why would I want to tell a happy story on Halloween night? Halloween is a holiday meant for scaring other people.

[Well he died once (twice if you count Ladd shooting his head off) got tortured twice. But shh]

But I'm not dead, Mister! I was hiding and he never found me...

Golly, I sure do hope not. There are a lot of stories and myths going around but that was the first real legend I've come across personally... [Except not really because he once said hi to a demon and drank an elixir to become immortal]

It is. [He's actually a little surprised. Had he not heard of the incident yet? Granted he had come from around the same time as him but he should've heard of it from the newspapers or something. It was pretty big. The story of the rail tracer was big.

Truth be told Czes hadn't checked the newspapers for that story. He was too afraid to read it, to remember it.] It happened not too long before I met you in Manhattan.

That'd be hard to deal with without certain spells... But can he truly be that fast, if people are able to discern his gender?

[It takes time and mental effort and the results are way better than some not-fake ghost story!]

I heard in the station that somethin' happened to the Flyin' Pussyfoot that made 'em have to switch it out before it came to the station. They didn't mention all that.
